A comic about Connie Hawkins
I just finished working on a comic for the next issue of Smoke Signal, and realized I never posted the comic from my last entry in that free all-comics newspaper. This is the story of Connie Hawkins, a basketball almost-was who I read about in Loose Balls, a great oral history of the short-lived American Basketball Association. There's also a chapter about him in The Undisputed Guide to Basketball History, the terrific book by the FreeDarko boys. If you have any interest in basketball, or any desire to understand what's exciting about basketball, those books are for you.

The BAM blog asked me to contribute a blog post about movies that have some Brooklyn significance to accompany a poster I created for them illustrating the same theme. It features John Cassavetes, The Little Fugitive, Jean Renoir, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, Michael Winner, Vigilante, Chewbacca, Sam Fuller, all kinds of stuff. Check it out in its entirety here.

Opening this Thursday
I have a handful of pieces on the wall and on file at Susan Inglett Gallery for the show THISORGANIZED curated by Hope Gangloff. It opens this Thursday, September 8, 6-8pm. It will be up for a month.
From the Susan Inglett site:
In a recent interview Hope Gangloff was asked which artists she admired and why. Hope’s response “I prefer my peer artists. I like them as people, and I like the art they are doing. My favorites include Gavin Anderson, Brian Booth, Milton Carter, Alexander Degen, Benjamin Degen, Adriana Farmiga, Eric Fertman, Chie Fueki, Nathan Gelgud, Everest Hall, An Hoang, Blaze Lamper, Josh Marsh, Yuri Masnyj, Barry Ratoff, Jason Search, Breanne Trammell, Juan Valadez, Justin Valdes, Nichole van Beek, and Anton Vojacek, and I could honestly go on and on. I would love to curate a show someday”. THISORGANIZED is that show.
